All assignments, grades, and student work vanish. Google says they become “permanently deleted.” So if you need that one rubric you spent three hours on, download it first. You’ve been warned.
Students lose access too. They can’t see old grades or assignments. So if a student asks about a past grade, you’ll have to shrug and say, “Google ate it.” That’s a legitimate excuse, right?
How to Delete a Class in Google Classroom
Don’t worry about their Drive files. Those are their files, not yours. Your precious Google Drive space stays the same. The class just stops existing as a container. Think of it as digital composting.
What About Unenrolling? (For Students)
If you’re a student reading this: you can’t delete the class. Period. But you can leave. Open the class, click the three dots, and select “Unenroll.” It’s like sneaking out of a house party without saying goodbye.
Your grades will still exist for the teacher. You just won’t see the class anymore. No hurt feelings. Well, maybe a little. But that’s between you and your algebra homework.
Google Classroom is weird like that. It’s all about ownership. Teachers are gods. Students are mortals. Embrace your role.
