Sometimes there’s no human name, but a group name is there. Like the American Heart Association or the World Health Organization.
In that case, use the group as the author. It’s not a person, but it signed the work. The MLA says this counts.
But what if the group is also the publisher? That’s a brain twister. The MLA says you can omit the publisher if it’s the same as the author. Keep it clean.
The Trump Card: The Date
No author, no organization, no title? Then you have a bigger problem. Did you find a real source? Or a random tweet from a bot?
For truly anonymous stuff, the date becomes your anchor. Use the year first. Then the full date if you have it. It’s a lifeline.
But honestly, if there’s no author and no title, ask yourself: is this worth citing? Wikipedia editors might be your only source.
