Some people have a condition called rapid gastric emptying—or “dumping syndrome.” Water zooms through your stomach too fast into your intestines, and your body panics. It triggers nausea, sweating, and a racing heart.
It sounds dramatic because it is. But it’s usually harmless. Your body is just a picky landlord, and water is a tenant it doesn’t trust yet.
What to Do When You Feel Nauseous from Water
First—stop drinking. Put the glass down. Take five slow breaths. Let your stomach settle.
Next, eat something bland. A cracker. A banana. Salt is your friend here. It helps rebalance the chaos. Then sip water slowly, like you’re sipping hot tea, not like you’re firefighting.
Finally, try sparkling water. The bubbles help some people digest easier. Or put a slice of lemon in it. Fake it till you make it. Your stomach might just be bored with plain water.
