The timing is simpler for fake trees: you can put them up in August if you really want. No one can stop you. But real trees have a shelf life. You’re basically racing against the clock. Put it up too early, and it’s a dry, sad mess by the big day.
Rule of thumb: If you buy a real tree, aim for the first two weeks of December. That gives it about three to four weeks of peak performance. After that, it starts auditioning for a role in a Charlie Brown special.
