If I were a betting man (and I am, because I own a tin hat), I’d point to a late 2026 or early 2027 release. Why? Because the BBC is currently filming other big shows, and Jed likes to write an entire season before filming a single frame. That takes at least a year of him staring at a wall, muttering “urgent exit required” under his breath.
A more optimistic guess is an announcement in late 2026. That’s when we might hear, “Filming begins next spring!” Which means you can start your countdown watch of the first six seasons—again. You know, for research purposes. “Oh, I’m just refreshing my memory on the corrupt Chief Super.” Rubbish. You’re doing it because you’re addicted.
What the Stars Have Leaked (Without Actually Leaking)
In interviews, the actors have been masterfully vague. Martin Compston once said, “I’m not ruling anything out,” which is actor-speak for “I haven’t signed a contract yet, but I need the job.” Vicky McClure said she’d “love to go back,” which is the most British way of saying, “For the love of god, give me a script before I go mad.”
Adrian Dunbar, the glorious patriarch of AC-12, hinted that Ted Hastings’ story isn’t over. He said, “There’s always a possibility.” That’s the same thing he says when asked if he likes tea. But we’ll take it, because we’re desperate.
