If you’re holding an S22 right now, you might be wondering if it’s “old.” Sure, it’s from early 2026, but here’s the kicker: Samsung promised four major OS updates for this thing. That means it’ll get Android 16 in 2026 or so. Insane, right?
Compare that to, say, the Pixel 6 from the same year, which only got three years of big updates. The S22 feels like the tortoise in a race against the hare—slowly but surely still running.
Also, the camera system on the S22 Ultra? It still hangs with 2026 flagships. The 10x optical zoom lens is a party trick that even the latest iPhones don’t have. So, don’t you dare trade it in for pennies.
The weird stuff you probably forgot
Remember the launch event? Samsung invited people to a virtual “Galaxy Unpacked” on February 9, 2026, but the phone didn’t ship for two more weeks. That delay felt like an eternity in internet time. Why make us wait?
And the colors! There was “Phantom Black,” “Phantom White,” “Green,” and “Pink Gold.” The green was so subtle it looked gray in some lighting. Samsung later admitted they were testing mood ring vibes with the matte finish.

Oh, and the S22 base model had a 3700 mAh battery. That was tiny even by 2026 standards. People joked you needed a powerbank just to get through lunch. Classic Samsung trade-off: compact phone, sad battery life.
