Most Lions games fall into the 1:00 PM ET slot. That’s the classic, the “I-can-still-grill-burgers-at-halftime” time. But wait—the NFL loves to flex. If the Lions are on a hot streak (which, let’s be real, is happening more often these days), the league might shift them to a 4:25 PM ET window. Why? Because money, baby. More eyeballs on a late game means more ad dollars, and your lazy Sunday afternoon just got a whole lot longer.
Then there’s the dreaded “flex scheduling.” The NFL can move a game up to 12 days in advance. It’s like planning a road trip with a friend who changes the destination every hour. One Tuesday, your 1:00 PM game becomes a 4:25 PM start. And if the Lions are playing a prime-time opponent? Forget it—you might be looking at 8:15 PM on Sunday night, or worse, a Monday or Thursday night slot. Your sleep schedule will resent you.
Primetime Lions: The Night Owls’ Blessing and Curse
When the Lions land a primetime game—like on Sunday Night Football or Monday Night Football—the kickoff is almost always 8:15 PM ET. Unless you live on the West Coast, where it’s a more reasonable 5:15 PM. For fans in Detroit, this means the game doesn’t end until nearly midnight. Your neighbors might curse the celebratory screams at 11:45 PM. Worth it. Just stock up on coffee and earplugs.
But here’s a fun twist: international games. If the Lions play in London, kickoff is at 9:30 AM ET. That’s right—breakfast football. You’ll be sipping mimosas by 10 AM, which is either genius or a cry for help. No judgment. Check the schedule carefully, because your local bar might not even be open yet.
