You’re emotionally exhausted. I get it. But you can handle one more long, glorious story.
Vikings
This one is all about warriors who think dying in battle gets you into a hall with endless mead. The stakes are high.
The first few seasons are incredible. Ragnar Lothbrok is a charismatic, flawed leader. The shield-maiden Lagertha is a legend. There is so much raiding and praying to pagan gods.
It gets a bit soapy later on, but the journey is worth it. You’ll feel like you can grow a beard just by watching.
Rome
This is the granddaddy of Thrones. HBO made it first. It’s about the rise of Augustus Caesar. It is filthy.
There’s politics, war, and a lot of togas. Two soldiers, Vorenus and Pullo, are your eyes into this world. They are basically Bronn and Tyrion, but with more gladiolus stabbing.
The show was canceled too soon, but it ends in a satisfying place. Plus, you’ll feel really smart for watching it.
