You probably guessed American football or basketball, right? The NFL and NBA are huge. But here’s the twist: average salaries can be deceiving. The Real Winner: It’s a Tie You Didn’t See Coming
Believe it or not, the highest paying sport in the world is a savage tie between boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA). Wait, hear me out! It’s not about the average fighter—most of them fight for peanuts (literally, like pocket change). But the superstars? Oh boy.
When Floyd Mayweather fought Conor McGregor, he reportedly made $275 million in one night. One night. That’s more than most NBA players make in a decade. And yes, I know that’s not a “sport” in the traditional team sense, but technically, it is.
But here’s the kicker: Tennis sneaks up on you. Roger Federer, Serena Williams, and Novak Djokovic? They rake in tens of millions from prize money and endorsements. But those tournaments? They’re long slogs, not a single fight night.
