What’s genuinely cool is how he’s adapted to the industry’s digital pivot. During the pandemic, Penry-Jones wasn’t just binge-watching Succession (though we all were). He launched a nuanced online masterclass series about character building for aspiring actors, which has a cult following on YouTube. “It’s about showing people that acting isn’t magic; it’s craft,” he said in a recent rare interview.
He’s also become a silent creative consultant for a small British production company that focuses on psychological thrillers. If you watch a low-budget indie thriller from the UK that has a strangely perfect rhythm, you might just be seeing his fingerprints on the script. It’s a pivot from star to behind-the-scenes architect.
And here’s the fun fact: he’s an avid falconer in his spare time. Yes, really. Between takes, you’ll find him in the countryside with a bird of prey on his arm, which he insists helps him find calm concentration. It’s the most British flex we can imagine, and it completely tracks with his on-screen intensity.

Where to Catch Him Now (A Practical Guide)
If you want to see what he’s up to right now, don’t just scan Netflix. Look to the stage. He’s currently attached to a new revival of a Pinter play at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London. Tickets sell out in hours, so set an alert or follow the venue’s social media for returns.
For screen fans, he has a supporting role in the upcoming Apple TV+ series Lighthouse, a moody maritime thriller. It’s a supporting role, not the lead, which is exactly the kind of intentional step-back he’s known for. “Supporting a story is more interesting than carrying it,” he once told a podcast host.
Practical tip: Follow his official Instagram (yes, he’s there, but posts only about once a month). He often drops cryptic behind-the-scenes photos from rehearsals, which is your best clue to upcoming projects. It’s low-key, like the man himself.
Ilha Do Tesouro De Rupert Penry Jones
For the true fans, revisit Spooks and MI-5, but watch it with a new lens. Notice his gift for internal tension—the way he can say nothing and make you feel everything. It’s a skill that’s aged beautifully, and it’s precisely why he’s still so sought after by theatre directors.
