Because it shatters your trust. After this, you never feel safe for any character again. That’s good storytelling. It’s also why the question “Which episode does Jon Snow die?” is still asked today. It’s a rite of passage for new fans.
So, if you’re on your first watch, brace yourself. Grab a tissue, maybe a drink. When you see that bloody snow, just remember: he’ll be back. But the moment itself? Pure, unfiltered pain. And that’s exactly why we love this show.
P.S. — If someone tells you he died in Season 6? They’re wrong. That’s when he came back. Don’t let them gaslight you. The death is always in Season 5, Episode 10. Now go watch it—and try not to throw a remote at the TV.
