Sometimes you just can’t get animal control—maybe you’re in a rural area, or it’s a Sunday night. If you decide to bury it, check local laws first. Some places ban pet burials on property.
Pick a spot at least two feet deep to keep other animals from digging it up. Wrap the cat in a thick cloth or plastic bag. Say a few words if you want. Nobody’s watching. You’re giving it a small dignity.
And if you can’t bury it? The trash is a last resort. I know, it sounds awful. But in some areas, that’s the reality. If you do, bag it tightly and label it. You’re not a bad person for what you can do.
