In January 1547, Henry became feverish, lethargic, and could barely speak. He died in the early morning of January 28. The official cause was vague: “natural causes.” But come on—natural causes is history’s favorite shrug emoji.
Some researchers say it was a massive stroke or a pulmonary embolism (basically a blood clot from his leg that shot to his lung). Given his weight, inactivity, and smoking habit (yes, he smoked tobacco!), a clot is very plausible. It’s like his body finally said, “Nope, I’m done.”
