The Red Heiffer prophecy is a pretty big deal in Jewish culture, and many people believe it's a sign of the coming of the Messiah. I guess you could say it's the cow--version of the Second Coming!
But what's really interesting is that the Red Heiffer is also associated with the Temple in Jerusalem, which was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. Apparently, the Red Heiffer is needed to purify the site where the Temple will be rebuilt.
Now, I know what you're thinking: what about all the other cows out there? Can't we just, like, paint one red and call it a day? But no, the Red Heiffer has to be a specific type of cow, with a very specific genetic makeup. It's like the cow-version of a purebred!
In fact, there are some farmers in Israel who are actually breeding cows in an attempt to produce the perfect Red Heiffer. I mean, can you imagine the cow resumes they must be sorting through? "Experience: 5 years of grazing, skills: mooing, eating grass..."
