Let’s be real: most vet clinics have a dusty sign reading “Equine Services” and maybe a retired pony out back. Oaklands is the opposite. They’re obsessed with horses in a way that’s almost charmingly intense. You walk in, and the receptionist immediately asks if you’re there for “the big one” or “the small one”—and she actually means your animal’s species, not your wallet size. (Side note: do not bring a Great Dane and expect them to call it “small.” I tried. They laughed.)
The hospital part isn’t an afterthought either. They’ve got a full surgical suite that looks like it belongs in a human hospital, but with stirrups for hooves. I saw a colic surgery prep area through a window, and I swear the instruments gleamed brighter than my kitchen cutlery. For a place that treats thousand-pound athletes, they’ve somehow made it feel like your golden retriever matters just as much.
