Did you know the official kickoff time is actually a lie? The NFL says “1:00 PM,” but the ball doesn’t drop until 1:07 PM. There are commercials. There are anthems. There are pyrotechnics.
That seven minutes is a sacred buffer. It’s the time you use to run to the bathroom or grab a beer. Never miss that window.

And if it’s a London game? Forget about it. The kickoff time is 9:30 AM Eastern. You need to be drunk before noon. That is a special kind of commitment.
Why We Obsess Over It
The kickoff time is the key that unlocks the entire day. It’s the trigger. Once you know it, the world makes sense. Your schedule bends to its will.
It’s also a social contract. “The Lions play at 4:25” is code for “Do not call me. Do not visit me. I am unavailable.” It’s a polite way to ghost your entire social circle.
And honestly? It’s just fun to talk about. You can debate with your friends: “Is a 1:00 PM game better for the defense?” Nobody knows the real answer. But we argue anyway. That’s the beauty of it.
