Now, let’s talk about the real star power. Tilda Swinton as the White Witch is basically a masterclass in chilling elegance. She made snow look scary. Every time she said “I have no children,” you felt a little shiver, even if you were sitting in a warm living room. Tilda didn’t just play a witch—she became the embodiment of eternal winter and bad vibes. It’s a testament to her acting that you almost wanted to give her a hug. Almost.
And who could forget James McAvoy as the faun Mr. Tumnus? Yes, that’s right—Professor X’s younger, hornier days. James brought so much warmth and guilt to that half-goat, half-man character. His scene with Lucy, where they share tea and he nearly betrays her, is both cozy and heartbreaking. Plus, he made a scarf look like the most stylish accessory in Narnia. Style points.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1988)
Liam Neeson voiced Aslan, the majestic lion who is basically Jesus with a mane. Neeson’s deep, rumbling voice made you feel like you were getting a hug from a thunderstorm. He could say “Do not cite the deep magic to me, witch” and you’d want to stand up and salute. It takes a special actor to give a CGI lion so much gravity, and Neeson delivered it with a purr.
The Supporting Cast: Donkeys, Beavers, and Wizards
Let’s not skip the unsung heroes. Ray Winstone (who usually plays tough guys) voiced Mr. Beaver, and he turned a talking rodent into a cheeky Cockney legend. Dawn French voiced Mrs. Beaver, adding a motherly “now, now, dear” vibe that balanced the chaos. And then there’s Jim Broadbent as Professor Kirke, the wise old man who tells the kids, “You might have to try again in a few years.” Spoiler: he’s right.
Even the smallest roles were perfect. Rupert Everett voiced the fox, Michael Madsen growled as Maugrim the wolf, and Kiran Shah played the dwarf who gets turned into stone. Every actor, no matter the screen time, brought a little magic. It’s like the casting director went to a fantasy convention and said, “Yes, you. And you. And especially you, scary witch.”
