You’ll notice the soil surface looks a bit cracked. Then—a tiny white root emerges, curling like a little question mark. Then two tiny cotyledons (baby leaves) pop out. They look like tiny green boomerangs. Cute, right?
Don’t overwater them now! They’re fragile. Use a spray bottle, not a watering can. You don’t want to drown the babies before they’ve had their first sip of sunlight.
Leaf Lettuce Germination Time at Beulah Insley blog
The Big “What If?”
What if you waited 14 days and nothing happened? It happens. Don’t panic. Did the soil dry out? Lettuce seeds are like that friend who never shows up if you forget to confirm the plan. Moisture is everything. Also, check if you covered them too deep. And please—tell me you didn’t plant them in last year’s dusty seed packet. Old seeds have lower germination rates.
If all else fails, buy new seeds. They’re cheap. Your sanity is worth more.
