The official word is a 2026 release, but let’s be real, that’s just a suggestion. Netflix and the other streamers are currently fighting over the rights like seagulls over a french fry. Expect the release to be pushed back at least three times because someone found a “new clue” in a pigeon’s nest.
Rumors are swirling that the documentary will drop in spring 2026, but I’ve heard that from the same guy who told me my lottery numbers were “coming soon.” If you ask me, it’ll land in the summer, right when everyone is on holiday and desperate for something to watch while avoiding their family.
What’s Actually Going to Be in This Thing?
I’ve seen the leaked production notes (okay, I made that up), but here’s what’s likely: a lot of grainy footage of palm trees and the sound of someone breathing heavily. The filmmakers have promised “never-before-seen interviews,” which probably means Jay’s childhood dentist and a guy who claims he saw a UFO over the island that same night.
The best part? They’re going to spend a whole hour on the “lost hour” of Jay’s timeline. That’s the hour where his phone pinged off a tower that shouldn’t exist, and he allegedly bought a bag of crisps from a ghost. It’s going to be the most frustrating, yet addictive, television since the last season of Game of Thrones.
There’s also a surprising fact: one of the producers actually got lost in Tenerife while scouting locations. They had to call a rescue drone. If that’s not poetic justice, I don’t know what is. The documentary will probably end with a dramatic reenactment of a man looking at a map and crying.
