Woking has a pyramid-shaped mausoleum in the cemetery. I’m not making this up. It’s a 30-foot stone triangle where a Victorian banker is buried. Locals use it as a meeting point for dog walks.
Also, the town is home to the biggest single-aisle church in England, St. Mary’s. It’s beautiful, massive, and looks like it could double as a set for The Da Vinci Code. If you’re into spooky architecture, you’re sorted.
Verdict: Should You Move Here?
Yes, but with conditions. If you love quick trains, moderate green spaces, and a town that doesn’t take itself too seriously (hello, alien statue), Woking is a winner. The cost of living is Surrey-level high, meaning you’ll pay £1,500 a month for a flat that has a “cozy” bathroom.
But it’s safe. The crime is mostly bike theft and the occasional pub fight over a pool table. Honestly, the biggest danger is stepping in a puddle while wearing suede boots.
If you hate crowds, avoid the town centre on Fridays. If you love silence, move to the edges near the canal. And if you’re looking for a place where you can commute, laugh at a giant alien, and eat a life-changing sausage roll in peace? Woking is your weird, wonderful spot.
Just please don’t move into my flat building. The parking is already a nightmare.
