Historically, bank holidays were designed to give workers a break between major celebrations. The UK government looked at the calendar and said, “You’ve got spring (May), you’ve got summer’s end (August), and you have Christmas. July is for sweating and regretting your life choices.” It’s a cruel joke, I know.
In the US, the system is even more chaotic. We have federal holidays scattered like confetti, but July is a one-hit wonder with Independence Day. It’s like the month is saving all its energy for the end-of-summer burnout in August and September. July is the friend who shows up empty-handed to the potluck and just eats your chips.
How to Survive a Bank-Holiday-Free July
Don’t panic! You can still have fun. Pretend it’s a personal bank holiday. Call in sick with a case of “summer-itis.” Or better yet, use a vacation day and create your own mini-holiday. The banks don’t need to know. It’s a secret party of one.

You could also celebrate National Fried Chicken Day (July 6th) or World Emoji Day (July 17th). If that doesn’t work, just spend the day staring at your savings account, thanking the bank for not being closed while you panic. It’s a weird kind of therapy.
