Let’s be fair to the competition. Waitrose and M&S often close early or shut completely on Good Friday. Marks & Spencer is basically a bank holiday snob. “Sorry, we’re having a picnic without you.”
Tesco, on the other hand, is the reliable mate who will let you crash on their sofa for a bit. They’re open, just not all hours. It’s a compromise. You get your shopping, but you also respect the day off for the staff. It’s a win-win, as long as you remember that the deli counter might be closed by 2 PM.

The “What About Saturday?” Follow-Up
Once you survive Good Friday, don’t get cocky. Easter Saturday is usually back to normal hours. But Easter Sunday? Oh, that’s a ghost town. Most big Tescos will be closed or have reduced hours. That’s when you discover you’ve been left with only a stale hot cross bun and a dream.
So, plan ahead. Buy your milk on Thursday. Buy your eggs on Thursday. Buy your dignity on Thursday. Otherwise, you’ll be that person Googling “Tesco 24 hour near me” at 8 AM on Easter Monday—and we all know how that story ends.
