Believe it or not, the tradition of shopping on Boxing Day is relatively new. In the olden days (before 2000), people just watched TV and got into arguments about the Queen’s speech. It was relaxing.
Then retailers discovered that people will pay real money just to escape their in-laws. A surprising fact: the Boxing Day sales used to be a chaotic, brick-and-mortar bloodbath. People would camp outside stores, shivering in tents. Next staying closed is actually a return to a more civilised era.
The Final Verdict (For the Next Freeloaders)
So, to summarize: Next is closed on Boxing Day. Do not try the doors. Do not ring the bell. Do not peer through the window like a disappointed elf. Embrace the closure. It’s a sign of corporate mercy.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to wait until December 27th. The stores will then open, looking slightly groggy, but ready to sell you a discounted waffle maker. Or just buy the waffle maker online now. You’re an adult. You can do what you want.
And if you still need a Boxing Day fix? Put your pyjamas back on, log into the website, and refresh the page until your eyes bleed. Just remember: the stores are sleeping. Let them rest. They’ve earned it.
