Fast forward to 1985, when Whitney Houston came onto the scene and totally owned the song. Her powerful vocals turned I Will Always Love You into a global sensation, and it's been a staple of karaoke bars and talent shows ever since. We mean, who hasn't attempted to belt out that infamous 5-minute note at some point in their lives?
But here's the thing: Dolly Parton didn't just write the song and then forget about it - she's actually a shrewd businesswoman who retained the rights to her music. So, when I Will Always Love You became a massive hit all over again, she was the one cashing in on the royalties. Talk about having the last laugh!
