If peeing on a stick gives you the ick, test your saliva instead. Wait at least two hours after eating or drinking. Spit into a clean spoon (yes, I’m serious), dip the strip, and compare. Saliva pH tends to be slightly lower (more acidic) than urine, so don’t freak out if you see a 6.0. Your mouth is a jungle of bacteria and leftover breakfast—it’s fine.
One weird trick: Don’t test right after brushing your teeth. Mint toothpaste can mess with the reading because it’s basically a chemical party. Rinse with water first or test before your morning brush.
