Okay, this is a joke, but not entirely. Older cards from 1999 have a distinct paper smell—like mothballs and faded dreams. If your card smells like a freshly printed textbook, it’s probably a reprint.
Don’t actually sniff your cards in a card shop, though. People will think you’re a lunatic. Save the scenting for the privacy of your own home, preferably while wearing a deerstalker hat.
If you want to be extra weird, check the copyright date. First Editions say “1999” at the bottom. Reprints from 2000 say “2000.” It’s the easiest fact to miss, because we’re all too busy looking at the shiny picture.
