Store blood oranges in the fridge crisper drawer. They’ll last 2-3 weeks this way. At room temperature, they’ll start to fade in about a week—like a New Year’s resolution. Never store them in a sealed plastic bag, as trapped moisture encourages mold.
If you cut into one and find a few minor dry spots, don’t panic. You can still juice it, or toss it into a smoothie where the texture hides. But if it’s mushy or smells off? Let it go. No amount of honey can fix a fruit that’s gone to the dark side. Compost it, and thank it for its service.
