Here’s where it gets properly mad. When Oasis released their debut album Definitely Maybe in 1994, Noel was 27 and Liam was just 21. Liam was legally old enough to drink in the US, but just barely. He was younger than most modern pop stars are when they release their third groovy sad-boy album. Liam was basically a teenager with a microphone and a swagger the size of the Titanic.
Now, let’s do the math on their careers. Noel has been a famous rock star for longer than Liam hasn’t been a rock star. When their father left the family, Noel was 11 and Liam was 6. That means Noel can actually remember a time before Liam existed. Imagine that burden of consciousness. He can recall the peaceful silence of a world without “Cigarettes & Alcohol” being screamed at him from the next room.

And the most shocking fact? Both of them are now older than John Lennon was when he died. Lennon was 40. Everything Oasis did—the Knebworth concerts, the drug-fueled tours, the iconic album—all happened when Liam was in his early twenties and Noel was in his late twenties. They were basically college-age kids with millions of dollars and a genuine hatred for one another. It’s a miracle any of them made it past 30, let alone to their current, advanced, legally-distinguished ages.
