Now, about that sugar content... a single serving of sherbet ice cream (about 1/2 cup) can contain anywhere from 20-30 grams of sugar! That's roughly the same amount found in a can of soda. But, before you freak out, remember that most of this sugar comes from natural sources, like the fruit itself.
In fact, some sherbet ice creams can be made with up to 50% fruit puree, which is pretty amazing. This means you're getting a good dose of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants along with that sugar. So, it's not all bad, right?
But, let's not forget that sugar is still sugar, and too much of it can be bad news for our health. The American Heart Association recommends that women consume no more than 25 grams (6 teaspoons) of added sugar per day, and men consume no more than 36 grams (9 teaspoons) per day.
