Zone 6 is where London gets weird. There’s a station called “Theydon Bois” (pronounced “They-don Boyz,” not “Bwa”). It sounds like a rap group from 1998.
Then there’s “Hainault”, which is Zone 4 but feels like the edge of the Earth. The Travelcard lets you giggle at these names without worrying about the fare.
The Tube vs. The Bus
Here’s a funny fact: A single Tube journey from Zone 1 to Zone 6 can cost £6.70 at peak times. That’s almost half the price of the whole day’s Travelcard. So if you take two trips deep into Zone 6, the Travelcard is a no-brainer.

But buses are a different story. A single bus ride is a flat £1.75, no matter the zone. So why buy the big card? Because the Tube is faster, shinier, and has that iconic “mind the gap” voice.
