Believe it or not, lobsters have been known to escape from fishermen's nets and survive on land for hours. It's not uncommon for lobsters to be found crawling on the beach, looking like they're trying to make a break for it! And, in some cases, they've even been known to outlive their human captors - talk about a reversal of fortunes!
But, what exactly happens when a lobster is taken out of water? Well, it's not pretty - their gills start to dry out, and they begin to suffocate. It's like they're trying to breathe, but their lungs aren't adapted to handle the air - it's a pretty alien environment for them!
Despite the dangers of living on land, some intrepid lobsters have been known to thrive in their new surroundings. Okay, maybe not thrive, exactly - but they've definitely been able to survive for longer than you might expect! And, who knows, maybe one day we'll discover a species of super-lobster that can live on land and water - wouldn't that be something?
