Fan for: Dessert boards, fancy cocktails (float that fan on a mojito, you mad genius), topping a pavlova, or impressing your mother-in-law. She’ll think you took a class. Don’t correct her.
Do NOT fan for: A smoothie. You’ll just cry over your beautiful work getting blender-murdered. Also, skip fanning if the strawberry is super soft or overripe. It’ll turn into jam before you finish your first cut. Pick a firm, proud strawberry for this job.
Also, never fan a strawberry for a toddler. They will look at you, mush the “flower” in their fist, and then laugh while you weep for your art.
The Philosophical Part (I’m Kidding, Sort Of)
Fanning a strawberry is a small act of rebellion against a mediocre world. It says, “I refuse to accept a bland, pale core. I will sculpt my joy.”
It’s silly. It’s extra. But so is putting a tiny umbrella in a drink. And we all agree that’s a good decision.
So next time you see a sad-looking berry, don’t just eat it in bitterness. Fan it. Show that fruit who’s boss. And then eat it with your hands, while standing over the sink. That’s the real victory.
