First, the spud has to leave its underground home. That involves a massive, loud, diesel-snorting harvester. It’s basically a monster truck combined with a giant Roto-Rooter.
It digs, shakes, and conveys these golden nuggets up a conveyor belt. The belt spits out the dirt, rocks, and any unlucky beetles. Then, poof, a truck appears.
This is the first ride. A dump truck, but for potatoes. It’s called a field truck. Real creative name, right? It carries the spuds from the muddy battlefield to the next stage.
The Temporary Vacation: Storage Sheds
Potatoes don’t like being rushed. They’re divas with a curfew. So they get a little chill-out session in a massive, climate-controlled storage shed.
Think of it as a spa for spuds. Fans blow air to keep them dry, and temperatures are kept just above freezing. If a potato gets too warm, it sprouts. Too cold, it turns into a sad, sugary mess.
These sheds can hold millions of pounds. It's a potato city, and the only rule is: stay firm, stay dry, don’t be a diva.
Now, when the world wants fries, the spuds need to leave the spa. This is where the real road trip begins.
