In 2008, Canadian astronaut Gregory Chamitoff brought a batch of Montreal-style bagels to the International Space Station. They were vacuum-sealed, but still—space bagels. That’s right. While you’re stuck in traffic, bagels have been to orbit.
And no, they didn’t float away. The hole made them easy to secure with a clamp. Practical AND portable AND space-ready. (I’m just saying, if aliens visit, they better bring bagels.)
National Bagel Day is a Thing
Mark your calendar: February 9th. But don’t feel pressured, because bagels are also celebrated on May 15th for International Bagel Day. Why two? Because bagels are that important. Or because the bagel lobby is powerful—I’m not sure.
Either way, it’s the one day you can eat a bagel for breakfast, lunch, and dinner without judgment. Support your local bakery. They’ve been up since 4 AM boiling water.
