Alkaline water has a higher pH than regular tap water. Think of pH as a scale from 0 to 14, where 7 is neutral—your tap water usually sits around a 6.5 to 8.5. Alkaline water claims to be on the higher end, often between 8 and 9.
Proponents say this extra alkalinity can “neutralize” the acid in your body. Sounds neat, but your body is a master chemist that already keeps your blood pH locked in a very tight range—like a bouncer at an exclusive club. Your stomach acid is incredibly strong—like, “dissolve a penny” strong—so any alkaline water you drink gets zapped back to neutral almost instantly. Sorry, fancy bottle.
