Back in 1960, the team was born as the Denver Broncos. Their first colors? Brown and yellow. I’m not joking. Picture a football team wearing the uniform of a UPS truck. It was, well, a choice.
They even had those ridiculous, sock-style stripes. It looked like they were wearing leg warmers. Someone in charge clearly needed a coffee break. Or a better sense of style.
Then, in 1962, the lightbulb went off. Or, more accurately, they discovered orange. And it changed everything.
Why Orange, Anyway?
The switch was a total rebrand. They wanted something that screamed “Rocky Mountains.” Think about it: the sunsets, the autumn leaves, the general vibe of Colorado. Orange fits perfectly.
It’s a color that says “we’re here, we’re loud, and we’re playing at altitude.” You can’t be shy with that color on a helmet. It’s practically a dare to the other team.
And they added navy blue to ground it. Because orange alone? That’s chaos. The blue is the cool, calm friend whispering, “Hey, maybe don’t run into the goalpost.”
