I’m not what you’d call a “serious pianist.” My technique is held together with duct tape and good intentions. But this sheet music didn’t judge me. The opening phrase uses only five notes—the same five notes you bang on a toy piano at your toddler’s birthday party.
You’ll mess up. You’ll hit a wrong note and think, “Well, that’s not in the score.” But then you’ll realize the next note sounds like it was always meant to be there. That’s the secret shame of this piece: it makes you feel like a genius even when you’re faking it.
Why it belongs in your everyday rotation
Most sheet music is like a posh restaurant menu—fancy, but you leave hungry. This one is comfort food. I play it while waiting for my microwave popcorn to finish. I play it with one hand while scrolling my phone (don’t judge me). It’s the only song that makes me forget I have bills to pay.
My neighbor once knocked on the door. I froze, thinking I’d annoyed him. He said, “That song you keep playing—it’s nice. I can hear you smile through the wall.” That’s when I knew this piece was a secret handshake for good vibes.
