Walk past the timber, and you hit the hardware section, a kaleidoscope of widgets and doohickeys that would make a Swiss Army knife blush. There are 1,247 different types of screws, and I am not exaggerating. You have screws for metal, screws for wood, and screws that look like tiny drill bits that have given up on life.
You’ll also find padlocks that could secure the Crown Jewels and hinges so heavy they require a chiropractor to install. The best part? There’s a bin of miscellaneous odd bits that feels like a geological dig for lost hardware. I once found a brass latch from 1987 in there. I bought it. I have no idea what I’ll do with it.

The Paint Counter: A Place of Lies
Moving on to the paint section, which is basically a rainbow of regret. You tell yourself, “I’ll just get a tester pot.” Six hours later, you’ve painted a whole wall “Duck Egg Blue” and you are committed. The staff here are trained to say, “That’ll look lovely,” to anyone holding a can of “Bitter Lemon Yellow.”
They know you’re lying to yourself, but they support your journey. It’s like a therapists’ office, but with more rollers.
