Now, let’s talk about the man himself. St. Shenouda the Archimandrite was a tough cookie. He lived in a cave, ate barely anything, and wrote letters that could make a king cry. But he also had a soft spot for the poor and the sick. He built hospitals and schools in the desert. So when you see his icon in the church, know that he’s the guy who’d share his last piece of bread with you—while also scolding you for not sharing yours.
His feast day is in July, and the church throws a party. There’s food, music, and a lot of “St. Shenouda, pray for us!” It’s less solemn and more like a holy block party. You might even get a cookie shaped like a lion. I’m not kidding.
